The Opal Story

The body is a soft, milky white with the faintest blush of warmth running through it, pale and luminous, like morning light through frosted glass. It is not transparent and it is not opaque. It sits somewhere in between, with a quiet depth that draws you in before the colour even registers.

Vivid green fire scatters across the entire face in fine, shimmering flecks, bright and electric, like sunlight catching the surface of moving water. Electric cyan and turquoise pop in concentrated spots across the upper half, sharp and intense against all that soft white. Pink and violet shimmer through the mid section, delicate and iridescent, shifting as the stone moves. Warm flashes of peach and orange glow along the lower edge, subtle but present, adding heat to an otherwise cool stone. And scattered throughout, tiny points of deep blue sit like punctuation marks, small and deliberate, giving the eye somewhere to land.

Design Possibilities

Worn on a simple sterling silver chain, the full face of this stone would be on display constantly, catching light with every movement. The milky white body and scattered multi colour fire would read beautifully against bright silver, cool and clean and endlessly interesting.

It would also make a generous statement ring. The broad face would sit wide on the finger, but the soft curves and pale body keep it feeling wearable rather than overwhelming.

If you wanted to do something unexpected, gold would be extraordinary here. The warm tone would let that scattered colour fire do exactly what it wants to do.

This opal comes finished as a hand fabricated bezel set ring or pendant in sterling silver. The bezel is hand filed to follow the exact curves of this stone, wrapping it securely while keeping the full face of that extraordinary colour completely visible. Every piece is polished to a high shine finish before it leaves the bench.
