The Opal Story

This is a pipe opal from Queensland, wide and solid, cut into a cushion rectangle with gently rounded corners and a broad, generous face. The base tone is a warm golden. amber, the colour of honey held up to the light, of late afternoon sun on dry grass. It is earthy and warm and completely unexpected for an opal.

Then the violet arrives.

Vivid electric blue and deep violet scatter across the entire surface in concentrated bursts and pools, sharp and saturated against that warm amber ground. They appear suddenly, disappear, reappear somewhere else as the stone moves.

Design Possibilities

That wide cushion rectangle is made for a statement ring. It sits across the finger with real presence and the broad flat face puts every bit of that amber and violet on full display. The warm base tone means it works beautifully against both sterling silver and yellow gold.

It would also work as a substantial pendant.

This opal comes finished as a hand fabricated bezel set ring or pendant in sterling silver. The bezel is hand filed to follow the exact curves of this stone, wrapping it securely while keeping the full face of that extraordinary colour completely visible. Every piece is polished to a high shine finish before it leaves the bench.
