The Opal Story

This is a Koroit boulder opal from southwest Queensland, one of the most distinctive opal producing regions in the world. Koroit opals are known for their wild, unpredictable patterning, colour that runs through and around the ironstone matrix in formations that look less like gemstones and more like aerial landscapes.

This one delivers on every bit of that.

The shape is a long, low marquise, slim and elegant, like a leaf caught mid fall. The base tone is a pale icy blue, cool and quiet. Then the colour hits. Electric green blazes across the surface in vivid, fibrous brushstrokes, almost neon in direct light, with a texture that follows the grain of the ironstone beneath it. Teal pools sit scattered across the face. Bursts of warm orange and copper glow through the body, earthy and rich against all that cool green. Deep blue flashes appear and disappear as the stone moves.

It is restless and alive.

Koroit boulder opals form when silica rich water seeps into the ironstone boulders of the Koroit region over millions of years, hardening into thin opal veins that follow the natural cracks and patterns of the host rock. The ironstone is not removed. It stays, becoming part of the stone, part of the pattern, part of the story. What you see on the surface is the result of millions of years of geology doing exactly what it wanted to do.

No two Koroit opals are ever the same. This one is proof of why that matters.

Design Possibilities

The long marquise shape is made for a statement ring. It runs along the finger with real elegance, and that electric green reads beautifully against the cool tone of sterling silver. The slim profile means it wears with presence without feeling heavy or bulky.

It would also work as a pendant, worn long where the full length of that marquise shape can be seen and the colour can shift with every movement throughout the day.

What's Included

This opal comes finished as a hand fabricated bezel set ring or pendant in sterling silver. The bezel is hand filed to follow the exact curves of this stone, wrapping it securely while keeping the full face of that electric colour visible. Every piece is polished to a high shine finish before it leaves the bench.

Please Note

This opal has been photographed in both light and shade to give you a good representation of the colour, but opals are natural stones and the play of colour may vary slightly from what you see in the photos.
