The Opal Story

This stone has a story written right into its face.

This is a boulder opal from Queensland, wide and solid, with a shape that is a softly rounded triangle. The base tone across the entire face is a deep, moody blue, the colour of deep ocean water, of a winter sky just before dark. Rich, saturated, and quiet. Then the teal starts. Electric green and teal shimmer across the surface in rolling, fibrous waves, brighter and more vivid toward the upper face where the light catches them most directly. Scattered flashes of bright green appear and disappear as the stone moves. The colour has a silky, layered quality, like watching light move through deep water from above.

Design Possibilities

A stone this distinctive calls for a setting that lets it speak. A simple, clean bezel in sterling silver would frame that deep blue. As a pendant worn at the collarbone, the full face of the stone is visible and the colour shifts with every movement. As a statement ring that will keep its eye on everyone around.
