The Opal Story

This one looks like golden hour light caught inside a stone.

The shape is a long, tapered teardrop, wide and rounded at one end, coming to a sharp point at the other. The base tone is a soft, warm peachy pink, the colour of skin in late afternoon sun, and it glows from within the way only boulder opals do.

Then the colour starts moving.

Vivid electric green blazes across the surface in scattered bursts, bright and sharp, appearing suddenly and disappearing just as fast as the stone shifts in the light. Pink and rose shimmer across the upper face in soft, rolling waves. The whole surface has a silky, fibrous quality to the colour play, like light caught in the grain of the stone, like the inside of a shell, like something alive.

Design Possibilities

That long tapered teardrop shape is made for a pendant. Worn at the collarbone, the full length of it is visible, and the colour shifts with every movement throughout the day. In morning light it will glow warm and peachy. In direct sun the green will fire. In low evening light the pink and violet will come forward.

It would also work as a statement ring on a wider band, running dramatically along the finger with that sharp point extending toward the knuckle.

What's Included

This opal comes finished as a hand fabricated bezel set pendant or ring in sterling silver. The bezel is hand filed to follow the exact curves and taper of this stone, wrapping it securely while keeping the full face of that extraordinary colour visible. Every piece is polished to a high shine finish before it leaves the bench.
