The Opal Story

The body is a warm, translucent golden peach, the colour of late afternoon light through amber glass. It is not colourless. The base tone itself is already beautiful, already warm, before the fire even starts. And then the fire starts.

Vivid green erupts across the face in irregular, scattered patches, bright and almost electric against all that warmth. Not one concentrated burst but many, spread across the stone like sparks caught mid air. Pink and rose shimmer through the mid section, soft and iridescent, shifting as the stone moves. Flashes of blue and violet appear in the upper left, small but distinct, cool and unexpected against the warm golden ground. And threading through all of it, a diagonal sweep of orange and amber that runs from the upper left down toward the lower right, tying the whole stone together.

Design Possibilities

Sterling silver would let the colour do all the talking, clean and bright against that warm peach base. But yellow gold would be something else entirely here. The golden body tone of the stone and the warmth of yellow gold would blur together in the best possible way, making the green and pink fire pop even harder by contrast.

This opal comes finished as a hand fabricated bezel set ring or pendant in sterling silver. The bezel is hand filed to follow the exact curves of this stone, wrapping it securely while keeping the full face of that extraordinary colour completely visible. Every piece is polished to a high shine finish before it leaves the bench.
