The Opal Story

The body is near colourless, almost grey white, the kind of transparency that lets everything happening inside the stone take centre stage. And what is happening inside is extraordinary.

Broad sheets of golden yellow and amber roll across the centre of the stone, warm and intense, like sunlight hitting shallow water over sand. Then the fire arrives. Vivid orange and red flare up through the yellow in irregular bursts, raw and electric. Bright green cuts in sharp and clean along the right edge, a completely different temperature sitting right next to all that warmth. And tucked into the upper left, a small but distinct flash of blue and violet, cool and unexpected against everything else.

Design Possibilities

That freeform teardrop shape and that volume of fire make this a statement ring, full stop.

The near colourless body means it works beautifully in sterling silver, which keeps the focus entirely on the colour play. But yellow gold would be extraordinary here. All that golden and amber fire against warm yellow gold would make the whole piece feel like it was made from the same material as the sun.

What's Included

This opal comes finished as a hand fabricated bezel set ring or pendant in sterling silver. The bezel is hand filed to follow the exact curves of this stone, wrapping it securely while keeping the full face of that extraordinary colour completely visible. Every piece is polished to a high shine finish before it leaves the bench.
